SUMMARY:Mechanobiology Hub Seminar: Ovijit Chaudhuri\, Stanford University
LOCATION:Biotechnology Building G10\, Central Campus
DESCRIPTION:Join Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology and the Me
chanobiology Hub on Thursday November 19\, 2026 for our fall external spe
aker seminar featuring Dr. Ovijit "Ovi" Chaudhuri\, Ph.D.\, Professor of
Mechanical Engineering and\, by courtesy\, of Bioengineering at Stanford
University. The Chaudhuri Lab investigates how mechanical forces and prop
erties influence cellular behavior and biological processes\, including c
ell division\, differentiation\, and cancer progression. The lab combines
advanced force measurement techniques with engineered 3D cell culture sy
stems to understand the interplay between mechanics and biology.\n\nCell
migration and morphogenesis in viscoelastic matrices\n\nTHURSDAY\n\nNOVEM
 BER 19\, 2026\n\n4:00 PM\n\nG10 BIOTECH\n\nThe extracellular matrix (ECM)
is a complex assembly of structural proteins that provides physical supp
ort and biochemical signaling to cells in tissues. Over the last two deca
des\, studies have revealed the important role that ECM elasticity plays
in regulating a variety of biological processes in cells\, including stem
cell differentiation and cancer progression. However\, tissues and ECM a
re often viscoelastic\, displaying stress relaxation over time in respons
e to a deformation\, and are viscoplastic\, exhibiting irreversible defor
mations in response to mechanical stress. In this talk\, Dr. Chaudhuri wi
ll discuss our recent findings on how matrix viscoelasticity regulates va
rious biological processes\, including collective invasion by cancer cell
