Indigenous and Island Peoples: Girl of Kosovo by Alice Mead
DESCRIPTION:This professional development workshop series is designed for
K-12 educators seeking to deepen their understanding of global issues thr
ough literature. This year\, we will explore the theme of "Re-Centering N
arratives: Indigenous and Island Peoples." Through global and regional pe
rspectives\, we will discuss narratives of Indigenous and Island Peoples\
, whose identities\, spaces\, and lived experiences are informed by globa
l phenomena such as migration and displacement\, economic and political s
truggles\, environmental issues\, human rights\, and human conditions. By
exploring compelling stories from diverse cultural perspectives\, educat
ors will gain insights into the complexities of this theme\, its impact o
n individuals and communities\, and how to engage students in meaningful
discussions around these topics.\n\nEach session features a carefully sel
ected book\, paired with historically contextualized presentations\, inte
 ractive discussions\, teaching strategies\, and cross-disciplinary activi
ties to inspire classroom implementation.\n\nThe workshop for November 19
\, 2026 will focus on the book\, Girl of Kosovo by Alice Mead\n\nhttp://n
