SUMMARY:Volunteers Needed for Middle School Program- GEMS
LOCATION:Whitaker Hall 104
DESCRIPTION:We\, the Whitaker Institute for STEM Education at FGCU\, are i
 nvolved with STEM outreach and education in the SWFL community. Each year
 \, we host several GEMS events (Growing in Engineering\, Math\, and Scien
 ce) for middle school students. The students attend two hands-on workshop
 s led by STEM faculty during this half-day program.\n\nWe are in need of 
 FGCU student volunteers to assist the faculty member or external STEM pro
 fessional in their activity. In each room\, there are multiple FGCU stude
 nt volunteers with a ratio of about 1 FGCU student to 2-3 middle school s
 tudents. This ensures that the children will be able to progress through 
 the lab activities while also providing them with another positive role m
 odel in STEM.\n\nPLEASE RSVP TO VOLUNTEER BY November 2\, 2026!\n\nVolunt
 eers are expected to:\n\n*Attend November 6\,2026 from 4:00pm - 5:30pm fo
 r orientation.\n\n*Arrive at 7:45am on November 7\,2026 to help with set 
 up. Activities end at 12:30pm. Volunteers are expected to stay until 1:00
 pm to participate on a discussion about the activities and feedback. Lunc
