SUMMARY:Somewhere Else: Leila McConnell and Melinda Laszczynski
LOCATION:Dana G. Hoyt Fine Arts Building University Art Gallery\, 1741 Bob
 by K. Marks Drive\, Huntsville\, TX 77340
DESCRIPTION:Somewhere Else: Leila McConnell and Melinda Laszczynski\, cura
ted by Melissa L. Mednicov\, features two artists who use abstraction to
create meditative paintings that challenge art historical concepts of lan
dscape and representation. McConnell\, in her abstract paintings\, create
s ethereal and otherworldly glimpses which invite the viewer to stay and
look. Her paintings offer the possibility\, through her formal acumen\, o
f momentary explorations of worlds seen and unseen. Laszczynski\, through
her adventurous exploitation of painting and mass culture’s debris such
as paint skins\, glitter\, and lenticular and holographic materials\, cha
llenges (and exploits) the norms of formalism in painting\, while also br
inging the viewer towards new ways of seeing and being. Her lenticular an
d holographic materials transform the viewer’s relationship to the work a
nd the space within which they behold it.\n\nAll exhibitions are open to
