About
Join us for a book talk presented by Dr. Paul Gillingham on his book Mexico: A Five Hundred Year History. Presented by Dr. Marcela Echeverri (Associate Professor of History) and Dr. Lorena Ojeda Dávila (Fall 2026 CLAIS Visiting Professor).
From Hamilton Book: Explore one of the most diverse, politically ground-breaking, and influential countries whose history has been one of suffering, yet also one of overcoming. Through it all, Mexico has set new standards for inclusivity, progressive social policies, and artistic expression, while striking a balance between dictatorship and democracy. Illustrated most in color.
Paul Gillingham is the author of the prize-winning Cuauhtémoc’s Bones: Forging National Identity in Modern Mexico and Unrevolutionary Mexico: The Birth of a Strange Dictatorship. He is a Professor of Latin American History at Northwestern University.
