About
Meet us under the arches at noon as we mindfully explore our neighborhood's most immersive green spaces through a practice known as Forest Bathing. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. RSVP is not necessary - just meet under the arches on Summit and we'll walk from there. Open to ALL students, faculty, and staff.
Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, originated in Japan in the 1980s as a public health initiative to counter rising stress and urbanization by encouraging people to immerse themselves in nature. The practice involves mindfully walking or resting in a forest setting, and engaging the senses to cultivate presence and connection with the natural world. Unlike other types of outdoor exercise, forest bathing emphasizes slowing down, breathing deeply, and noticing small details like the rustle of leaves or the scent of pine. Research has shown that spending time in this way can reduce stress, boost immune function, and improve mood, making it both a restorative wellness practice and a simple, accessible way to deepen one’s relationship with nature.
