About
The Sikh religion celebrates Bandi Chorr Diyas concurrently with the Hindu holiday of Diwali which is commonly known as the "Festival of Lights". Bandi Chorr Divas translates to "Day of Liberation", in remembrance of the sixth Sikh Guru fighting against injustice by releasing 52 prisoners who were wrongfully jailed by the Moghul empire in 1619. An aged tradition is getting clay oil lamps and painting decorative designs on them for the holiday in celebration of the freedom. We will acquire clay lamps along with paint. Students will enter the room at 6pm, grab a set of brushes, paints, a lamp, paper towels, and water for the paint, snacks + pizza. The SSA board will be responsible for making sure the room is clean at the end of the activity and free of any messes. Students are free to leave whenever they'd like but have until 8pm (room reservation) to stay and paint/socialize.
