Presentation Title: Evoking the Complexity of Black Lives in the US South: Excavating the Untold Stories
Dr. Amanda Concha-Holmes introduces Evocative Ethnography, an interdisciplinary and community-based methodology that combines scholarship, creative practice, and collaborative storytelling to challenge historical erasure and expand public understanding of Black life.
Drawing on her collaborative digital publication, Evoking the Complexity of Black Lives in the US South: Excavating the Untold Stories, Concha-Holmes explores how multimodal media, including art, animation, data visualization, mapping, and interactive narratives, can recover overlooked histories and foreground Black creativity, joy, resilience, and achievement.
The presentation highlights how reimagining the past through innovative forms of ethnographic engagement can help communities envision more equitable and inclusive futures.
