About
Register for our upcoming virtual book launch and discussion of the new critical edition of Hannah Arendt’s The Origins of Totalitarianism, featuring a conversation with its four editors.
Following our September book launch at The University of Texas at Dallas, the Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies is delighted to continue the conversation online and welcome a wider audience to explore this landmark work.
First published in 1951, The Origins of Totalitarianism has remained a major point of reference and debate across generations of scholars and readers. Published in summer 2026, the new critical edition brings together the final English and German versions of Arendt’s work, alongside earlier drafts, archival materials, and detailed scholarly annotations.
Join editors Annette Vowinckel, Hanno Berger, Christian Pischel, and Elena Stingl for a virtual discussion exploring the making of this critical edition, its scholarly significance, and the new possibilities it offers for reading and interpreting Arendt’s influential work. The conversation will also reflect on the questions Arendt's work continues to raise about antisemitism, imperialism, and totalitarianism, and the relevance of her ideas to the contemporary world.
