About
Let’s Talk Identity is designed for students on our San Luis Obispo and Solano campuses whose identities have been historically and systematically marginalized and who want to meet with therapists committed to inclusion, cultural humility, and doing their own internal work to challenge cultural and/or privileged biases. When you drop into Let's Talk Identity, you'll meet with one of the members of CAPS Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Team (DEI & Belonging Team).
We understand that many communities have a rightful mistrust in the medical and mental health fields due to past and present injustices and disparities of care. Along with that, there are communities where discussing emotional health may feel especially vulnerable or would be something family members might not support. This drop-in was developed by CAPS providers who deeply understand these experiences and who want every person to feel safe seeking support. All students are welcome in this one-on-one drop in space.

Things to consider before dropping into Let’s Talk:
1. Let’s Talk is not a replacement for therapy and is not a crisis intervention space.
2. If you share information about planning to harm yourself or others, and/or share knowledge of abuse occurring to someone from a vulnerable population, then the Let’s Talk provider may be ethically required to take steps that break your confidentiality.
3. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call CAPS at 805-756-2511 and either ask for an urgent appointment or select to be connected to our CAPS Crisis Line. You can also call 9-1-1 or go to the Emergency Room. Click here for more detailed resources about what to do in a crisis.
