About
Boba tea, also known as 珍珠奶茶, stands as one of Taiwan’s most culturally meaningful symbols. Since its origin in 1986, the drink has achieved international acclaim, gaining popularity even in places like Boston. Despite its widespread appeal, its roots in Taiwan often go unrecognized. To promote greater awareness and appreciation, the Taiwanese Cultural Organization (TCO) at Boston College hosts the annual Boba Tea Festival. This event allows participants to craft their own boba tea using fresh ingredients provided by TCO members. Options include popular toppings such as tapioca pearls, grass jelly, and coconut jelly. Guests can further customize their drinks with a variety of teas, fruit flavors, and lactose-free milk alternatives. Beyond the beverages, the festival offers a range of boba tea-themed activities, including games, keychain making, and scratch art. Attendees are invited to take home prizes and handmade items that serve as tangible reminders of the event and its cultural significance. Through this celebration, TCO aims to offer a meaningful cultural experience while showcasing boba tea as a symbol of Taiwan’s identity and global presence.
