About
The “See Me, Hear Me” program will provide residents with a welcoming and supportive space to connect with their peers, share their experiences, and build a stronger sense of community. The program will emphasize the importance of feeling seen, heard, and supported while recognizing that every resident has unique experiences, perspectives, and challenges. Through open discussion and interactive activities, residents will have the opportunity to express themselves, learn from others, and develop meaningful connections with their community. Residents will participate in a supportive conversation focused on communication, active listening, empathy, and understanding different perspectives. The program will encourage residents to listen without judgment, share their thoughts and experiences respectfully, and recognize the importance of making others feel valued and included. By fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding, the event will help residents strengthen their interpersonal skills and contribute to a more inclusive and supportive residential community. The program will take place in the first-floor lobby of Black Oak Hall from 5:30–6:30 p.m. on November 6. Residents will check in, enjoy refreshments, and participate in a brief discussion and interactive activities centered on self-expression, communication, active listening, and community building. Participants will be encouraged to share their perspectives, listen to their peers, and reflect on ways they can help create an environment where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves and knows their voice matters. Learning Outcomes Residents will: • Develop communication and active-listening skills by engaging in respectful discussions with their peers.
• Recognize the importance of empathy, inclusion, and understanding different perspectives.
• Identify ways to create a welcoming environment where individuals feel valued, respected, and heard.
The primary educational domains for this program are Social Responsibility and Equity and Inclusion. The program supports Social Responsibility by encouraging residents to recognize their role in creating a respectful, supportive, and welcoming residential community. Through open discussion, active listening, and shared experiences, residents will explore how their words and actions affect others and identify ways to demonstrate empathy, respect, and accountability in their interactions with peers. The program will emphasize the importance of supporting one another, standing up for others, and contributing to a community where everyone feels valued and heard. The program also promotes Equity and Inclusion by encouraging residents to recognize and appreciate individual differences, respect diverse perspectives, and create opportunities for everyone to feel included and comfortable expressing themselves. Through meaningful conversations and interactive activities, residents will reflect on the importance of ensuring that all voices are respected and considered. By fostering understanding, reducing judgment, and promoting a sense of belonging, the program will help residents contribute to a more equitable and inclusive residential environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and respected.
