About
Join Criss Library Archives and Special Collections for a reading by Rob Gilmer of Mucho Mucho. His work in progress is an opera about the life, love, and death event of René Orduña and Gilmer. The reading will be in the style of poetic verse.
The couple owned and operated both the Dixie Quicks restaurant and the RNG Gallery, which shared a space beginning in 1996 in Omaha before relocating to Council Bluffs in 2011. Dixie Quicks closed in 2018 after which Gilmer donated an archival collection to Archives and Special Collections.
During November in Omaha, Mucho Mucho will be read, workshopped, discussed and Rene will be celebrated. November 9, 2026, is the 10-year anniversary of Rene’s passing and November 11, 2026, is the 15th anniversary of Rene and Rob’s wedding. Gilmer has been writing about the life, love and loss of Rene, AKA Pumpkin Bear. Mucho Mucho is a living script about life, The Good of Life. Subjects addressed in Mucho Mucho are: love, discrimination, family, function/friction, Pride, prejudice, NYC AIDS, heroes, silence, strength, meekness, history, home, brilliantness, dimness and Soaring Flight.
