About
Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) is an incredibly complex, choreographed set of rituals that blend together distinct elements of Japanese cultural arts. There are three main schools of Chanoyu: Urasenke, Omotesenke, and Mushanokojisenke. Each school has its differences but all are important.
The Chanoyu club has provided tea lessons in the Urasenke style since its inception. In this spirit, we are inviting a certified Urasenke tea instructor to conduct lessons in the Urasenke style. Students will immerse themselves in Japanese culture and learn the art (Otemae) of preparing different types of matcha tea as part of the Japanese tea ceremony, which includes learning about Japanese ceramics and tea-specific utensils, seasonal Japanese decor, Japanese language, and tenants of Zen Buddhism.
