About
The year 2026 has been a contrasting year for the global trajectory of illiberalism. While some countries are moving away from illiberal governments, others are entering their own illiberal transformations. Yet beyond electoral victories and defeats, illiberalism is becoming a durable feature of our political and cultural lives, increasingly entrenched in institutions, intellectual debates, cultural production, and collective imaginaries. Join Marlene Laruelle, editor of the Illiberalism Studies Program Yearbook, and contributors Laura K. Field (Niskanen Center and ILLSP), Zsolt Enyedi (Central European University), and Jean-François Drolet (Queen Mary University of London) for a discussion of the political worlds taking shape in the illiberal age, the values and institutions being transformed, and the possibilities of imagining alternative democratic futures.
