About
Join faculty leaders Todd Kesterson and Michael Olsen for an information session to learn more about this OSU faculty-led program. Mapping the Renaissance: Digital Twins in Florence, Italy is an immersive study abroad program that introduces students to the rapidly growing field of digital heritage documentation through hands-on experiences in one of the world’s most historically significant cities.
Based in the heart of Florence, the course explores how advanced geospatial and imaging technologies such as laser scanning, photogrammetry, GNSS positioning, pocket lidar, and digital modeling can be used to create accurate digital twins of cultural heritage sites, monuments, and artifacts. Students will learn how modern geomatics and visualization technologies are transforming the preservation, management, and interpretation of historic environments while developing practical technical skills applicable to careers in engineering, geomatics, architecture, construction, archaeology, and digital humanities.
