About
Come find out about Franklin CREATE! Study Away: Boston Biotech & Medtech, a UGA Study Away program running in Maymester 2027.
You’ll spend a week of online gene-technology lectures from campus, then twelve days in Boston and New England. There you’ll go behind the scenes at biotech companies like Novartis, Inari, and Boston Scientific, tour MIT’s BioMaker Space and BU’s innovation labs, explore the Museum of Science and the Harvard Museum of Natural History, and head out to Martha’s Vineyard for conservation and agriculture work at Felix Neck Wildlife Refuge and The Farm Institute.
Along the way, you’ll spot real problems in biotech, conservation, agriculture, and history, and work with a team to turn one into a gene-technology venture you’ll pitch on the last day of the trip. You’ll come home with two courses done, PBIO 4500 (Introduction to Gene Technology) and FCID 4001 (LEARN: Entrepreneurial Thinking in Arts and Sciences), plus a pitch for your résumé and contacts in one of the country’s biggest biotech hubs.
Stop this info session in Spark Studio (Boyd 324) to hear about the itinerary, costs, credits, and how to apply. Bring your questions! Contact: Dr. Katie Springthorpe at springthorpe@uga.edu.
