About
Learn how to create your own comic and celebrate the latest edition of Proud Little State! The Fleming is excited to bring together an afternoon all about research-based graphic art, including a hands-on workshop with Prof. Luis Vivanco and the issue launch of Proud Little State #2 with our friends from UVM’s Center for the Research on Vermont. The Museum and all events are free and open to all.
Intro to Graphic Story Telling Workshop
Come join Prof. Luis Vivanco, the comics-making anthropologist, to learn about graphic storytelling and comics-based research. After a brief introduction, he will guide you through several hands-on activities to get you working on a museum-related graphic story of your own. We will provide all the tools necessary, and no background in art is required. The workshop will be held in the Fleming’s Multipurpose Room on the Lower Level.
Proud Little State comics: Civil Unions issue launch
Proud Little State is a new series of short comics on LGBTQ+ topics in Vermont’s past and present. Come grab a free copy of our second issue, drawn by White River Junction artist Juniper Kim, about the battle for civil unions in Vermont. Snacks will be available in the Fleming’s lobby where the Vermont Queer Archives will also share selections from their collections.
Proud Little State is a project of UVM’s Center for Research on Vermont; the UVM Gender, Sexuality, & Women’s Studies program; Vermont Folklife; and the Vermont Queer Archives. Issue #2 was created with grant support from Vermont Humanities.
