These weekend long trips depart campus on Friday afternoons after your last class and return to campus on Sunday afternoon. Get out of Radford and see some of the most beautiful areas in the Appalachian Mountains. On each trip you will learn basic backcountry camping skills, cooking skills, navigation skills, and Leave No Trace ethics. Backpacking trips head too many places surrounding the New River Valley. Participants should expect to hike 5 – 12 miles each day with a 40 pound backpack. Appropriate clothing, footwear, and hygienic products should be provided by the participant. Food, equipment, and instruction is included with the trip fee.
