About
Join us to learn from Ethics Fellow Megan Mueller, Assistant Director of the Business & Engineering Career Hub, about "Ethical Career Exploration: Turning Local Company Visits into Meaningful Student Learning and Engagement".
Description: How can a company field trip become more than just career-exploration? This facilitated discussion will examine how faculty and staff can help students explore the ethical dimensions of workplaces while also learning about careers, organizational cultures, and professional expectations.
Students frequently encounter employers through tours, career fairs, internships, and networking events. Typically, these experiences often focus primarily on job duties, qualifications, and hiring opportunities. Students can leave these events without knowing how to assess whether an organization’s practices align with their own values.
This discussion will help faculty and staff design company visits or field trips that encourage students to:
• Ask thoughtful questions about workplace culture and responsibility and do so in a respectful way.
• Recognize that ethical questions exist in every profession and industry.
• See themselves as future employees who can help influence workplace culture.
While the project focuses on company field trips, the opportunity is to help position students as respectful ethical inquirers and for them to feel more confident in assessing a company’s ethics and values versus their own.

-----------
UCCS Ethics Initiative at the College of Business holds Ethics Roundtables that are workshops featuring faculty and staff who have been selected as Ethics Fellows. Roundtables are held throughout the academic year, and are open to all UCCS faculty, staff, Southern Colorado Ethics Consortium schools and interested students. This event provides an opportunity to share best practices, classroom experiences, subject specific course materials, and address specific concerns. Roundtables provide UCCS faculty and staff along with invited guests the opportunity to hear about how others teach ethics and implement principle-based ethics in their work or area of expertise.
