About
This full-day training helps you recognize when someone may be facing a mental health or substance use challenge—and how to respond with empathy, confidence, and care.
Through a blend of self-paced online learning and live virtual instruction, you’ll gain practical tools to support peers in crisis, connect them with help, and understand the impact of trauma, substance use, and self-care. You’ll leave equipped to make a difference in someone’s moment of need.
What to expect:
• A 2-hour online module completed before the in-person session
• A full-day, instructor-led training with lunch breaks
• National certification in Mental Health First Aid
• Credit toward your UAB Mental Health Advocate Certificate – Level 3
Why it’s worth your time:
• Learn how to recognize and respond to mental health and substance use challenges
• Build leadership skills rooted in compassion and clarity
• Strengthen your résumé or grad school applications with national certification
• Be the advocate someone may need
