About
Join us for the presentation of the Hearst Award to Camille Zapata, in recognition of her achievements in relation to the First Amendment and her influential role in the changing media landscape.
As Governor Gavin Newsom’s Director of Digital Strategy, Zapata has led an ambitious social media strategy that has helped transform the way political leaders respond to national events, engage the public and participate in the broader democratic conversation. Her work demonstrates the power of communication to challenge authority, shape public dialogue and hold power accountable.
In her award address, Zapata will reflect on digital strategy, cultural voice and the responsibilities of communicating in public — where every message can help shape how democracy is understood and experienced.
Arrive early! Food will be available outside the Student Union Theater beginning at 4:00 p.m., ahead of the ceremony’s 4:30 p.m. start. Admission is free and open to all! RSVP via Google Form.
Supported in part by a College of Humanities and the Arts Artistic Excellence Programming Grant.
