About
Brought to you by the Beekeeping Club at UCCS and the Bug Club, at this event we will search for mid-fall pollinators around the UCCS Farmhouse.
Starting with a presentation about Colorado's common Native Pollinators, you will learn what pollination is exactly and why it is important. For instance, pollination is the transfer of pollen from one flower to another flower of the same (usually) species. You'll also learn how to tell a bee from a wasp or even a fly! Students will be provided a tally sheet to note the insects and the type of pollinators they are after the presentation.
This is a low stakes learning and exploration environment with the goal being to show students the wide variety of pollinators that exist, even beyond honey bees. The Bug Club will bring their knowledge of entomology alongside the focus of bee pollinators that the Beekeeping Club of UCCS specializes in.
Please be ready at the Farmhouse at around 3:30 PM with the following: -> closed toed shoes, ideally long sleeve/long pants, water, a writing utensil, and a curious mind.
While you're at the Farmhouse, attendees will be offered to try samples of our honey, and if you'd like, give our friendly rabbits a treat.
Together, let's have fun learning about pollinators--they are more numerous than you might think!
