About
Kevin Coleman, PhD, associate professor of history at the University of Toronto, traces how far-right Salvadoran Catholics undermined the authority of Archbishop Óscar Romero and built justifications for violence against him and other committed Catholics. In a process he calls “theological-political authorization,” Coleman documents how Romero’s opponents turned from theology to law and back to find justifications, with the ultimate result of fratricide.
