About
Join us to explore some of the most spectacular and technically advanced jewelry of the ancient world.
The artists of cosmopolitan Nubia (modern-day Sudan), a major source of gold along the Nile Valley, created incredible adornments, but their work remains largely unknown. Dr. Denise M. Doxey, Curator of Ancient Egyptian, Nubian and Near Eastern Art at MFA Boston, which houses the most comprehensive collection of Nubian jewelry outside Sudan, will present highlights of the collection in their historical and archaeological context, while exploring the jewelry’s meaning to those who wore it.
This program is offered through the annual Nancy S. & Peter O. Brown Guest Lectureship in the Art & Architecture of Ancient Civilizations.
