About
Explore the universe with the University of Miami Department of Physics
Step inside the University of Miami’s portable planetarium and experience the night sky in an immersive, 360-degree environment. The inflatable dome is approximately 12 feet tall and 18 feet in diameter, accommodates up to 35 visitors, and uses a computerized projection system to recreate the experience of a traditional planetarium.
During the academic year, the Department of Physics hosts monthly Planetarium Nights for members of the University community and invited guests. Each program combines a fulldome astronomy film with guided exploration of the evening sky. Depending on the program, the night may also include short presentations, hands-on demonstrations, conversations with physics faculty and students, and other astronomy-related activities.
Our presenters will highlight planets, constellations, and other celestial objects visible from South Florida that evening, helping visitors connect what they see inside the dome with the real sky outside.
Space inside the dome is limited. An RSVP link will be posted below as each event approaches.
