About
Description: Effective management and understanding of research metadata are crucial for ensuring your data is discoverable, understandable, and reusable. This workshop, “Harnessing the Power of Research Metadata,” will guide you through the key principles and practices for creating high-quality metadata. Participants will learn how to document descriptive, administrative, structural, and technical aspects of their data, making it easier to share and collaborate. The session will highlight the importance of metadata in meeting the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles and provide hands-on exercises to apply these concepts to your own datasets. Whether you’re managing large datasets or just starting your research journey, this workshop will equip you with the knowledge and tools to optimize your research metadata.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
• Describe the purpose and key types of research metadata, including descriptive, administrative, structural, and technical metadata.
• Apply metadata best practices to make research data more findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR).
• Create and evaluate high-quality metadata for their own research datasets to support data sharing, collaboration, and long-term reuse.
Audience: Graduate students, research faculty/staff, and anyone doing research in general.
ADA Acommodation: If you need accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to be able to participate in this event, please contact Sergio I. Coronado (sergiocoronado@tamu.edu) to communicate your needsat least 5 business days prior to allow us to facilitate a reasonable accommodation.
GRAD Aggies & RCR Credit: This workshop may be eligible for GRAD Aggies credit (1 PDU) and Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) credit. To receive credit, participants must attend the session, submit the Libraries’ attendance form in a timely manner, AND complete any additional steps as required by the respective program.
