About
The French and Italian Department and French Speaking Worlds: Here and Now invite you to a lunch workshop entitled “Truisms, Fiction and Women’s writing” with acclaimed author Marie Darrieussecq. Darrieussecq is a French novelist, translator, and former psychoanalyst. She earned her doctorate in French literature in 1997 at the École Normale Supérieure. Her 1996 debut novel, Truismes (Pig Tales, trans. 1997), tells the story of a woman who slowly turns into a pig amidst a tense and depraved political climate. It became one of the best-selling novels in France and was heralded by critics as a provocative social satire and multi-layered tale of feminist emancipation. She has since published over 20 works spanning from novels, children’s books, essays and biographies. Her novel Il faut beaucoup aimer les hommes won the Prix Medicis in 2013 and her more recent works include Pas dormir (Sleepless, trans. 2021) and Fabriquer une femme (How to make a woman, trans. 2026). Darrieussecq’s rich oeuvre probes the unspoken boundaries of language and represents a fearless expression of the female body. All are welcome!
