About
Join us for our next Social Justice Cafe on the intersection of food security, health and human rights. What does food security look like, and who do food deserts impact the most? How does food insecurity shape your health and wellbeing? What does a human rights approach to addressing issues of food security look like?
Leading this conversation are Dr. Yenni Cedillo Juarez, Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences at the School of Health Professions, who will explore the health implications of food insecurity; Joanna Broyles, Program Coordinator II with Blazer Kitchen, who will share some statistics and highlight some of the stigma associated with food insecurity; and Kizzi Frisby, Community Outreach Coordinator at the Institute for Human Rights, and Founder of Saylor's Village, who will bring in a human rights framework to the conversation and share how Saylor's Village is helping address this issue in neighborhoods around Birmingham.
Our Social Justice Cafe series is hosted virtually every other Wednesday throughout the academic year from 12-1 PM CST on Zoom. Add us to your calendar so you never miss another Social Justice Cafe!
