About
Event goal
The "Talk the walk” is an intellectual development session specifically tailored for freshmen navigating the challenges of their first collegiate public speaking requirements. Recognizing that the COM 101/203 final project is a significant source of academic stress, this event provides a supportive bridge between classroom theory and practical application. This can also help other people who struggle when it comes to speaking up in public and other classes that are similar to COM 101/203.
Event description
By partnering with COM 101/203 tutors, the session will provide peer-to-peer coaching in a low-stakes environment. Participants will practice techniques to find their voice, structure their thoughts effectively, and gain the confidence needed to excel in academic presentations and future professional settings.
Through peer-to-peer coaching with COM 101 tutors, students will engage in "socialized learning" to overcome the physical and mental barriers of presenting. The focus is on transforming speech-giving from a source of anxiety into a mastered skill, ensuring that every student—regardless of their initial comfort level—can effectively find their voice and share their ideas with confidence.
