About
Mujeres Extraordinarias: Asi en la Guerra, como en la paz (Extraordinary Women: War & Peace), is the third in a series produced by Dominican filmmaker Yildalina Tatem Brache. It features interviews and contextual commentary with world-renowned poet and translator, Rhina Espaillat, and four other Dominican women who have had a powerful impact on the country’s social and political history: Miriam Germán Brito, distinguished jurist and Attorney General of the Republic, Juana Ferrer, peasant leader and activist, Petronila Santana, a key figure in the resistance movement, and Carmen Mazara, revolutionary political militant.
The 76-minute film is mostly in Spanish with English subtitles. The screening will be followed by a conversation and audience Q&A with Espaillat, who will join via Zoom. BC’s Burns Library is in the process of acquiring Espaillat’s literary archives.
