A second sun, a gift from the gods, hangs above the city of Elturel on a dawn most beautiful. Named the Companion, it burns away the flesh of the evil undead, it emboldens those who follow paths of good, it is the symbol to all in the holy capital of the nation of Elturgaurd that they are truly blessed, watched, and protected by the gods they exalt on high. But they were all of them deceived. A man stricken hopeless, their Supreme Pontiff and Lord Commander who along with his deity is said to have set the Companion in the sky, sold the souls of his comrades, his neighbors, his fellow people, along with their children, and their children’s children. This Companion is no blessing, it is a debt, and on this greatest of dawns, the devil wants her due. Elturel and all its people have been dragged into Avernus, first of the Nine Hells, their souls to be harvested by its dread lords, and most of all, Avernus’ Archduchess, Zariel. Infernal chains bind the ruins of the city to the ground far below, devils and demons slaughtering one another above and below over the great prize, all while the city is slowly dragged into the River Styx. Slowly, Elturel Descends into Avernus.
