About
Jackson County's Project F.I.R.E and Cullowhee United Methodist Church are looking for volunteers to assist with their monthly deliveries. For the monthly deliveries, meet at Cullowhee United Methodist Church (UMC) or the county's woodlot off of 441. For the monthly delivery opportunities, volunteers can help make wood deliveries (TRUCKS GREATLY NEEDED FOR DELIVERY), ride with others who do have pickup trucks to help unload, or simply help load trucks and hang around on site to help split. There is no real cap to the monthly deliveries.
Volunteers can just show up at the site to help! Monthly delivery days offer free breakfast, lunch, and drinks. Come out to help with deliveries on delivery days. Personal Protective Equipment and other needed supplies provided. Bring gloves if you have them!
Recommended for volunteer activities that require manual labor and/or lifting heavier items: Wear comfortable closed-toe or steel/composite toe shoes or boots and clothes that you can work in and do not mind if they happen to get a little dirty.
Cullowhee United Methodist Church partners with Project F.I.R.E. because helping keep the rural elderly of Jackson County warm helps their church live out the core value of loving their neighbors.
Project F.I.R.E (Fuel Intervention for Rural Elderly), part of the services offered by the Jackson County Department on Aging, cuts, splits, and delivers firewood to low-income seniors who rely on wood as their primary heating or cooking fuel. It operates with the help of volunteer groups, distributing around 200 loads of wood annually across the county with the help of partners like Cullowhee United Methodist Church.
