About
Dr. Susan Dine, Vanderbilt University
Hokusai's so-called "Great Wave" is the most well-known work of Japanese art in the world, yet it is only one aspect of the rich material culture of Japan during its time. This talk explores the production of Japanese woodblock prints from brush to consumer through a look at Hokusai's famous print, but also touches on lesser-known stories of the art world and the streets of the capital.
