24-hour Challenge: Building the Future of Government

About

Government officials bring real problems to a virtual kickoff on Thursday. Your team has 24 hours to build a solution and pitch it to them in person on Friday.

You are cordially invited to join a brand-new collaboration between CAL, Vanderbilt Government and Community Relations, and 1776 Labs. This 24-hour chalenge will bring together students and Nashville policy makers to work on solutions related to civil society here in Middle Tennessee. This is an incredible opportunity to make a difference in our city/state and to network with a host of politicians and policymakers.

The sprint will kick-off on Thursday, November 5, 3:30 pm with a virtual event. It will conclude on Friday, November 6 with an in-person pitch session beginning at 3:30 pm.

Here’s an example of any actual issue we will be confronting at the event:

"How can Metro Nashville leverage AI to identify inefficiencies in local municipal codes to reduce costs, increase housing production, and encourage efficiency? What are other cities employing in the layering and structure of their code that Nashville should consider adopting? Compare Nashville’s municipal code to peer cities including Austin, TX, Charlotte, NC, and Denver, CO. and/or cities who have proven to be successful at providing more affordable housing for residents."

This is an amazing opportunity to get involved with Nashville/Tennessee officials and contribute to making government work better. No prior tech experience is needed. Your job will be around leadership and problem solving.
