About

Oedipus Rex is a Greek tragedy by Sophocles detailing King Oedipus of Thebes, who attempts to escape a prophecy that he will kill his father and marry his mother. Unknowingly, he has already fulfilled this fate, and when a plague strikes Thebes, his desperate search for the truth leads to his wife/mother Jocasta's suicide and his own self-blinding and exile.
