About
Come hear more about this summer study abroad trip to Northern Ireland and meet the professors leading it. The trip targets current Freshman nursing majors, or nursing majors still needing NUR 3850, Evidence Based Practice.
Immersed in the vibrant cultural, historical, and healthcare landscape of Belfast, Northern Ireland, students may register for one of three courses tailored to their academic level: NUR 3340 The Art of Flourishing, NUR 1020 Cultural Competence in Nursing, or NUR 3850 Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing. This provides a unique opportunity to lighten the academic load for the upcoming semester! Students may (optional) also register for NUR Elective Global Health Innovation and Missions (online), Eng 3950/3010/2950 Writing Through the Troubles (hybrid), Religion 3950 (online).
A highlight of the program includes interacting with other international summer school students and co-leading a participatory action Photovoice research study in collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast nursing students. Photovoice is a powerful research method that uses photography and narrative to capture real-life experiences—in this case, to explore the supports and challenges to nurse well-being across diverse settings. The research will culminate in a public student-led art exhibit, inviting stakeholders and community members to engage in meaningful dialogue around nursing, resilience, and well-being. This global experience blends cultural immersion and international collaboration to prepare students for compassionate, evidence-informed nursing practice. Students aren't just observers of Belfast's story, they're applying participatory action research to understand how another profession's caregivers sustain themselves amid hard conditions, then turning that lens back on their own field.
