About
Welcome to the Men's Peer Support Group, sponsored by the Wellbeing in Higher Education Network at UNR.
Who is it for?
This is a newly created peer support group specifically for employees at UNR identifying as male, dedicated to creating a space where they can openly discuss mental health and challenges.
Men face unique struggles around mental health. Nearly 75% of all suicides in the U.S. are men. We believe that by supporting one another and changing the narrative around masculinity and mental health, we can show up better for ourselves, our families, friends, and communities.
What to Know
Share as much or as little as you want with structured questions to reflect on such as "how's your week been?", "what's something you want to get off your chest?" and "what's one positive thing from the last week?"
It’s okay not to be struggling to attend - simply being part of the group can offer insight, support, and a sense of belonging.
Logistics and Good to Knows
The room will be open ten minutes prior to start time to come and get settled. Registration is not neccessary, but please note the session will start promptly and if you arrive more than 5 minutes late you are kindly requested to attend the next session.
While this aimed at men-identifying people, you are encouraged to check out other peer support groups for other members of the community, particularly NAMI Northern Nevada and Reno DBSA.
The session will be led by an employee at UNR. This is a peer-led group and is not a substitute for professional mental health care. If you're in crisis, dial 988.
