About
The Grammy Award-winning Ying Quartet opens our 2026–27 Chamber Music Series with an adventurous program.
The Grammy Award-winning Ying Quartet is celebrated for its expressive performances and visionary approach to chamber music. For more than three decades, the ensemble has appeared in leading concert halls around the world while championing music’s role in community life through performances in schools, workplaces and prisons.
The quartet first gained national recognition as a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts’ Rural Residency Grant in Jesup, Iowa—an experience that continues to shape its commitment to outreach and education. Its acclaimed LifeMusic project has commissioned works by composers including Billy Childs and Lera Auerbach, reflecting the many voices and experiences of American life.
The Ying Quartet’s discography includes American Anthem and a Grammy-nominated collection of Tchaikovsky quartets. In collaboration with cellist Zuill Bailey, the ensemble has also recorded reimagined versions of Schumann’s Cello Concerto and Beethoven’s “Kreutzer” Sonata.
The Ying Quartet serves as quartet-in-residence at the Eastman School of Music and ensemble-in-residence at the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
