About
The purpose of the lifeguarding recertification course is to give individuals the opportunity to review course content within a formal course setting. The review course format optimizes a participant's ability to successfully complete the knowledge and skills evaluations required for recertification.
Blended Learning: This is an American Red Cross Blended Learning Lifeguarding course. This blended learning course includes an online portion and an instructor-led classroom skills session. The online portion must be completed before attending the in-class portion. Most learners complete the online portion in approximately 7 hours. However, your experience may vary widely based on several factors including your PC, internet speed and previous training. We recommend beginning the online session as soon as possible to ensure you have completed it prior to the in-person skill session. The online portion must be taken on a PC or tablet with a high-speed Internet connection. You will receive instructions on how to access the online Blended Learning content shortly after registration.
Prerequisites: Must be at least 18 years old, must possess a Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate that is expired for no more than 30 days, and pass the listed swimming requirements.
1) Swim 150 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing, followed immediately by treading water using only the legs for 2 minutes, followed immediately by an additional 50 yard swim. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. 2) Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: a) Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. b) Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. c) Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object while keeping your face at or near the surface so you are able to get a breath. You may not swim the distance under water. d) Exit the water without using a ladder or step.
