About
The Museum Studies Program has organized a special tour of the Walker Art Center available to all faculty, staff, and students. Led by museum staff, the tour will visit current exhibitions including:
Olalekan Jeyifous: Hydricosmic Litanies
Please register to reserve a space, as museum staff will plan accordingly to accommodate the size of our group. Participants will meet in the Walker Art Center Lobby.
Artist Olalekan Jeyifous (US, b. Nigeria, 1977) imagines an archive of remnants surfaced from a speculative river enclave. Neither utopian nor dystopian, the enclave emerges from the histories of the Mississippi River yet exists outside of fixed time. Foregrounding the river as a keeper of ecological, spiritual, and industrial memory, Jeyifous melds African diasporic cosmologies with Indigenous water knowledge into a meditation on the entanglements between waterways and people.
This tour is part of our new College Partnership status at the Walker Art Center. The Department of Art History & Visual Culture and the Museum Studies Program have opened the doors to the Walker Art Center, providing Free Museum Access for the whole University Community!
Through a College Partnership funded by the Department of Art History & Visual Culture, UST students, faculty, and staff can now take advantage of complimentary admission and special educational opportunities at the Walker Art Center.
The Walker is one of the nation’s leading multidisciplinary contemporary art institutions, located just across the river in Minneapolis’s lovely Lowry Hill neighborhood.
Aquinas Scholars can attend for program credit.
The Walker Art Center College Partnership
The Department of Art History & Visual Culture and Museum Studies Program is proud to fund this opportunity as a direct extension of our mission to cultivate critical analysis, cultural awareness, experiential learning, and empathetic engagement. Providing university-wide access to the Walker Art Center brings that mission beyond the classroom, giving students opportunities to encounter art, architecture, visual culture, and museum practices firsthand while considering the cultural contexts and structures of power that shape artistic production and interpretation. By removing the financial barrier to museum admission and expanding access to educators, curators, and performing arts programming, we hope to help students across disciplines become more critically engaged, culturally aware, and visually intelligent citizens of the world. Whether you are visiting for a class, conducting research, looking for inspiration, or simply spending an afternoon with friends, just show your University of St. Thomas ID at the Walker’s welcome desk. Explore an exhibition, encounter something unexpected, and return as often as you like!
