About
What role does religion, faith and religious studies play in university life, and what contribution do they make to academic freedom? Can religion and religious studies answer what the role of the university is in a democratic nation? Please join NC State and Duke universities for a conversation with Shai Ginsburg (Duke University), Rev. Luke Powery (Duke Divinity School and Duke Chapel) and Omid Safi (Duke University) to examine points of convergence and points of distinction between academic freedom and religious freedom.
This event is part of Sharing Ground, a joint NC State–Duke seminar exploring how the humanities can deepen our understanding of academic freedom and the university’s role in sustaining democratic life. Bringing together scholars, students and academic leaders, the seminar asks how humanistic inquiry can foster principled disagreement and a more vibrant culture of free inquiry on campus.
