About
Join the Moody for our signature series, Artists-in-Dialogue, featuring exhibiting artist Eamon Ore-Giron. Every season, we host a conversation between an artist and researchers from complementary fields. Partnering with the faculty at Rice University and abroad, Artists-in-Dialogue facilitates new entry points for exploring art and reveals cross-disciplinary connections that illuminate the intersections of science and the humanities.
This fall, Ore-Giron, who is represented in Radiant Geometries: Vectors of Knowledge from the Indigenous Americas and the Rice Public Art Collection, will be in discussion with Lori Boornazian Diel, L.H. Favrot Professor of Humanities in the Department of Art History at Rice University, and Steven Gullberg, Professor of Cultural Astronomy at the University of Oklahoma.
Ore-Giron’s visual language draws, in part, from astral charts and pre-Colombian/Andean traditions of sky-watching, creating a geometric and mathematical mode of abstraction that centers ancient systems. Diel and Gullberg will expand that exploration through the lens of art history and astronomy, evoking questions of how humans encode celestial observations and the passage of time.
