About
Join the Franklin Contra Dance community this summer for an inviting series of lively, beginner-friendly gatherings filled with music, movement, and connection. Held monthly from March through November, these community dances welcome everyone—no partner or prior experience needed.
The Fall 2026 Contra Dance series features three opportunities to join in:
• Thursday, Sept 17 (6:30–9:00 pm) at the Macon County Public Library (149 Siler Farm Road), with live music by George Paul & Amelia Morgan and calling by Claire Takemori.
• Sunday, Oct 18 (2:30–5:00 pm) at the Cowee School Arts & Heritage Center (51 Cowee School Drive), featuring Here On the Hill (band from MA) with caller Wendy Graham.
• Thursday, Nov 19 (6:30–9:00 pm) at the Macon County Public Library, with music from Dittyville (band from VA) and calling by Seth Tepfer.
Each event begins with a welcoming half-hour introduction, making it easy for beginners to jump in, followed by two hours of joyful dancing. Experienced dancers are always eager to help newcomers learn the steps, creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
Participants can expect high-quality live music from talented folk musicians across the Southeast and skilled, engaging callers who guide the dances with care and enthusiasm. Attendees are encouraged to bring a water bottle and snack if desired, and to refrain from wearing perfumes or scented products to keep the space comfortable for all.
A suggested donation of $10–$20 per person supports the musicians, callers, and sound technician, and youth ages 14 and under attend for free (recommended for ages 8–88).
Those interested can learn more about upcoming events, performers, and future dance dates (including fall gatherings in September, October, and November) by visiting the Franklin Contra Dance Facebook page or emailing ContraDanceFranklinNC@gmail.com to join the mailing list.
Join and be a part of an evening (or afternoon) of music, movement, and community where everyone is welcome on the dance floor.
