Ecological Restoration: Lessons from the Past, and Changing Paradigms for a Hopeful Future
Headlines announcing the impacts of climate change and the continuing loss of biodiversity can dim the spirits. Nevertheless, there are real signs of hope for restoring ecosystems and the biological communities and humans that rely on them. Citizens for Conservation's Seed Program Manager, Luke Dahlberg, will share his story of an over two-decade journey in Restoration Ecology and Horticulture, a conversation on what he has learned, the challenges then and now, and the paradigm shifts and mindsets to revise for a hopeful future of humans and nature coexisting together.
Bio: From a young age, Luke Dahlberg has always had a love and passion for the natural world, whether that was looking for bugs under logs, starting seeds to create a backyard garden for habitat, or staring at birds through binoculars to figure out who they were. This would lead him to volunteer at Citizens for Conservation, a non-profit volunteer organization in Barrington that focuses on ecosystem preservation and conservation while providing environmental education and advocacy to the local and regional community. Luke pursued a Bachelor's of Science degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Business minor at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Luke focuses on native plant conservation and restoration through propagation and research horticulture, looking to understand how to restore and sustain rare native plants in the wild. Luke also is an avid birder and nature photographer.
