About
Each November, Native American Heritage Month honors Indigenous knowledge, culture, history, language, and futures. At UC San Diego, it was historically known as California Native American Day (CANA-Day). Join us for the 20th Anniversary Native American Heritage Month Celebration and Roots of Community Award on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Price Center West Ballroom.
This event features keynote speaker the Honorable Devon Lee Lomayesva of the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel, performances by flautist Little Wolf (San Pasqual Band of Kumeyaay), the Blue Eagle Vigil Kumeyaay Bird Singers, andthe ceremonial presentation of the 2026 Roots of Community Award. Attendees will also enjoy an Indigenous-inspired meal developed by UC San Diego Assistant Professor of History Heather Ponchetti Daly (Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel) and prepared by Saltaire.
