About

November 14–December 13, 2026

The California 500 Mile American Indian Spiritual Marathon Relay Team, founded by Dennis Banks and following the leadership and tradition of early Native American runners who were messengers, is a multicultural group of individuals dedicated to preserving the tradition of spiritual running. In May 2026, the 500 Mile Runners ran to North Dakota to return a staff to Leonard Peltier, a Native American activist who was granted clemency by President Joe Biden in 2025. The photographs featured represent Leonard Peltier and Dennis Banks’ spirit runners reunited after 49 years in prayer.

Exhibit Reception Saturday, November 14, 2026, 1 p.m.–5 p.m. AAACNA Studies Center, 5th Floor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library
