About

'Tis the season for all the hauntings, horrifying encounters, and harrowing close calls!

The UO Folklore Society is hosting our annual Spooky Tales Night on November 18, 2026 from 6-9PM at the Gerlinger Lounge.

Bring your best (short) spooky tales, because this year we're turning up the heat with the traditional summoning ritual of Hyaku Monogatari, an Edo-period Japan parlour game inspired by Buddhist myth. 100 tales, 100 candles, and a question: do you have the courage?

The Lounge will be set up with the candles behind a screen, where tale tellers must go to blow out their candles. Will you summon a visitor as your light snuffs out?

Food and drinks will be provided. Everyone is encouraged to prepare multiple tales.
