About
How can we help students become more discerning, critical, and responsible users of information in the age of AI? Join Bonnie Fong (Director, Bloomfield College Library) for an interactive professional development opportunity focused on Critical Information Literacy and AI Literacy. We will discuss effective ways we can teach students how to:
• navigate and use information in an increasingly AI-driven information landscape, recognizing the limitations of AI tools and AI-generated content;
• critically evaluate information, identifying possible bias and reflecting on the existing economic, political, social, and cultural structures that impact information creation, dissemination, and access; and
• incorporate responsible and thoughtful AI practices into their academic work and possibly their life.
Participants will be introduced to the teaching resources that Bonnie and Melissa John (Research & Instruction Librarian) developed - a rubric with accompanying instructional activities with possible assessments - and will be invited to share their own approaches to teaching critical information literacy skills and AI literacy. They will be provided with the opportunity to consider how they might adapt these for use in their own courses, with the goal of leaving the session with fresh ideas and perhaps an updated assignment ready to bring back to their classroom.
This workshop is sponsored by the Bloomfield College Faculty Professional Development Committee, Office of Faculty Excellence, and University Libraries.
