About
Join Penn State Alternative Breaks this fall break for a meaningful service experience focused on community engagement, social justice, and learning beyond the classroom.
Participants will travel with a group of approximately 10–12 Penn State students, faculty, and staff to volunteer with community partners while learning more about social issues affecting the communities they serve.
This year’s confirmed trip will take place in Pittsburgh, PA, with a focus on Youth and Animal Conservation. We will also be offering two additional trips, with locations to be confirmed, centered around Habitat for Humanity and Housing Security and Elderly Wellness & Care.
The trips will take place from November 21–25, 2026 and will include service activities, educational opportunities, group reflection, and opportunities to connect with fellow Penn Staters and the communities we visit.
The participation fee is $50, which includes transportation, housing, food, supplies, registration, and educational activities. Payment plans and fee waivers are available for students with financial need.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so we encourage you to apply early!
